Who's online
In space no one can hear you do your laundry.
My breathing is heavy as i check every vent shaft i see. I then proceed to stomp every one of my fallen brethren in red gooey mush Cause i'll be damned if the fallen are going to be used against me.
But up here im not alone i came with others 2 non-chalantly ripped to shreds about 4 minutes after landing in the hell hole of a ship. I have my commanding officer who's locked himself in the bridge and sent me of on my lonesome to trod through the body stealing monsters to bring everything back online. I also have some random female shipmate who has done pretty much nothing bar locking herself in somewhere.

What was that!!! Something lunges at me from out of the dark. I raise my weapon the best i have on this mining ship which is in summary just a futuristic nail gun. It runs at me quicker than i remember but 2 shots and its down. So we come to the first of dead spaces flaws.
Variety is where it really suffers there are around 8 types of the normal necromorphs and quite a few look very similar Making it hard to differentiate when four or five come towards you. But i digress everything looks very nice Smooth textures and a great feeling for the maintenance sections of the ship. This is fine however but the look is constant. Its hard to believe that the crew quarters has not received any kind of decoration. No fancy lighting or different types of desks. Theres not even any carpet even bioshock had itself carpet's It certainly is a Grim future ahead of us EA.
But what joy and a rush when i finally began to play Dead space it had spent at least a month looking at me from my shelf. So with much procrastination coming to the end i set forth to game. The sounds are fantastic and undeniably immersive a constant sense of imminent attack as you hear something rumbling through the vents to try and make a meal out of you. At first the game feels like this it making you watch every corner skeptically just in case the thing that ran past the doorway in front of you five minutes ago decides to show itself up again. I spent the first 3 chapters of the game with my a feeling much like this.

But this feeling quickly changes as the necromorphs seem more than eager to bask in the limelight of the dimly lit corridors this removes much of the suspense you felt earlier as once you get the knack of removing the offending beasts the worst you have to worry about is ammo conservations and the odd one hit kills. A horror game with a overabundance of fairly unvaried monsters loses a lot of its horror value.
but its atmosphere is unrivaled particularly in this generation of consoles. The marvelous graphics and a sound score from the same person who gave us the soundtracks to the films demons and demons 2 (or so i heard) really places you inside the shoes of issac clark as he searches for his dead girlfriend or maybe shes not as there are a few crew still alive when you meet them.
Much like bioshock a lot of the enjoyment is in the collectibles. Quite a few games could learn from the inclusion of the incredibly well recorded and written audiologs.
In all a great game although most likely lacking alot of replay value but it can picked up rather cheap now days so its clearly worth a look.
I will leave you with the latest picture from assassins creed 2.

I get it, but then I am thinking - realisticly how vaired is a spaceships interior going to be? And do spaceships have carpets. But then this isn't real life - at least I hope not, I really don't want to meet any necromorphs, so why didn't they give you more things to get distracted by?
Never have truer words been spoken.
In anycase I'll be dreaming of lying on the floor of a carpeted intergalatic battle cruiser tonight
